Will New Moon’s action look the same as Twilight’s?
Rachelle Lefevre: It’s so much wirework. It’s so much actual doing-it. In terms of the look of it … I think Chris has approached things as it should be, a little rawer and a little more literally grounded.
I think it was very flighty in the first one, so when we were running fast it was almost like you weren’t touching the ground … I think he’s factored gravity in a little more than they did in the first film, so that might have a different look as a result.
On New Moon’s underwater action:
RL: I spent six hours in a pool doing the underwater stuff. They did a really interesting thing where they did this amazing stunt with the bit where Bella gets caught in the tidal wave … I think it must have been 2,000 gallons of water in massive — they looked like huge, rectangular cargo containers you put on the back of trains.
First, they did it with a stunt double, and then they did it with Kristen’s photo double, and then they literally, on action, pulled the hatch and she got pummeled with a massive tidal wave and you could watch underwater, which I did because I was in the pool, or you could watch in the monitor. You could literally see her spinning, they created a tidal wave, and they literally filmed until she got spit out. And when it spit her out, the cut was over.
It the stunt work scary?
RL: It’s scary for me because I don’t like heights, but there’s a really interesting thing that happens which is that I’m absolutely terrified when I’m up there, and then they go, “OK, rolling!” … It’s just one of those things that happens to you. So, as me, I’m afraid, and as Victoria I just do what they tell me to do. It’s this bizarre thing where you don’t want to get all the way up there and not do it. Failure’s just not an option, so you just do it.

Q: Just so you know, I purposely don't read the books because I want to enjoy the franchise as a moviegoer...
Many people purposely don't read the books. They are called men. (Laughs.)
Q: Can you talk about that then? What was your interest in coming on board a franchise that predominately been more popular with women then men?
Actually, in that regard my brother and I often end up doing movies whose audiences are predominantly women or tipping point of success relies on a female audience. Even 'American Pie.' I think the thing that distinguishes it more than the gross-out humor, because there is a lot of that going on. The way we tooled it was so that girls could be interested in it as well. And, in as much as the 'Twilight' series has a great appeal to women, I think it really concentrates on the emotions of the central character and romance and I think that unfortunately that the studio system has not been very good at getting boys to be interested in. They think and maybe incorrectly, that the male gender is interested in just thing blowing up. And I don't think that's true. I certainly didn't make this movie towards only girls or women being interested in seeing it. There is a lot for diverse audiences including older audiences than the first one drew. Really, we are drawn to the cast. I thought the central cast were great and I wanted to work with them and it also employed some skills that I picked up along the way including working with special effects and working with younger actors and working on emotionally structured stories

Weitz is still developing New Moon’s computer-generated effects — including a new take on Edward Cullen’s “sparkling” effect, which drew criticism in the first film — and is just weeks away from delivering a first cut.
“I am about two weeks away from showing my director’s cut to the studio,” Weitz told us. “I’ve got some wolves with fur, and some wolves are still invisible, basically. And some wolves are kind of like…what look like Claymation versions. We are still in the late R&D phases of what Edward looks like when he’s hit by sunlight, what the vampires look like when they’re hit with sunlight, the diamond effect, and also the hallucinatory effect that Bella has when she hears Edward’s voice and she imagines him there.”

Breaking Dawn staying true to it's roots?

According to Ted Casablanca at E!, Breaking Dawn will stay true to its roots instead of being watered down for the big screen.
Breaking Dawn features scenes that are quite violent and overtly sexual, and it was feared that the script would gloss over important elements that may not be appropriate for a younger audience.
Ted cites producers that say it will be “very, very sexual, …almost too hot for Twilight’s fanbase”.
Skip ahead to 2:35 in the video to catch the part about Breaking Dawn.

Age: 32 “Twilight” role: Cora, waitress in the Carver Cafe
Claim-to-fame moment: Serving “Twilight” author Stephenie Meyer, who makes a cameo as a cafe customer
How she got the role: “We got the call that they were auditioning. I auditioned first for (Portland casting agent) Lana Veenker. My second audition was with (director) Catherine Hardwicke, who came to Portland for the auditions.
“I was up against a close friend of mine, and we both wanted the role so badly. It came down to two roles — there was Cora, and then a nurse in the hospital where Dr. Cullen (Facinelli) works. We knew the role of Cora was going to be gold. I thought I’d bombed in my audition with Catherine. We improvised and laughed the entire time, but I thought, ‘My friend is gonna go in there and she’s gonna nail it.’
“We had to wait two weeks before we found out who got Cora, and it was just nerve-racking. Then I got a call that I got the role. Immediately after that, I got a call from my friend saying, ‘I don’t know if I’m the first to tell you, but you got Cora, because I got the nurse!’ I totally bawled. Such emotion had built up because after reading the books, I was super-invested.”
The inner life of Cora: “Before my second audition, I walked around my house in North Portland as Cora and thought about the world as Cora. Being from the San Juan Islands originally, I wasn’t that far from Forks (where ‘Twilight’ is set). I was one of less than a handful of minorities in my hometown, and I worked at an A&W. I looked at the photos of Forks that Stephenie Meyer posted on her Web site, and I imagined that as my hometown.
“At one time they were thinking of Cora as a love interest for Charlie Swan (Forks chief of police and father of heroine Bella). That was before the fourth book came out. I was laughing with Stephenie Meyer between takes, and I said to her, ‘If you could just write in the last book that Charlie and Cora live happily ever after, you’d be doing me a big solid.’ She was very sweet. I’m immensely impressed by what she’s done.”
Team Edward or Team Jacob?: Fans have crushes on both vampire heartthrob Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson) and Jacob Black (Taylor Lautner), the Quileute tribe member who can turn into a wolf. “I’ve been asked that many times. My new motto is, I’m Team Berry Cobbler” (the dessert Cora serves Bella). I did get to meet Robert Pattinson a couple of times, and he was fantastic. I actually met his parents before I met him. I have a day job as an optician and they came in, looking to have some glasses repaired.”
The “Twilight” effect: “Somebody started a MySpace page for Cora the waitress. I have a huge following in Turkey. A ‘Twilight’ Web forum there approached me to come online and answer questions. People find my MySpace page, and I get lots of acting-related questions, and then more frivolous ones, like, ‘What does Robert Pattinson smell like?’ Well, he smells like a 21-, 22-year-old guy. He smells like he should smell. I’m sure if anybody smelled him, they’d just be wooed and won immediately.”
Catherine Grimme
Age: 7 “Twilight” role: Young Bella
Claim-to-fame moment: Appearing in ballet costume on video before the climactic battle between Edward and bad vamp James (Cam Gigandet)
How she got the role: “Well, I was kind of scared, because there were a lot of people auditioning, and I really wanted to get the part. I did the scene that I did in the movie, and then I did a few other things. I had to know the lines and stuff, and we had to make up some stuff. (Director Hardwicke) was really nice to me. She was awesome. My mom and dad read the books. I just had to read the sides (her lines) to see what kind of character Bella was.”
On meeting Pattinson: “He was very nice. I was kind of star-struck. Is he cute? That’s what most people say. I’m not so sure about that myself.”
Mother Kim Grimme adds: “Catherine Hardwicke made a point of introducing Robert to Cat (as the family calls her). He got down on his knees so he would be at eye level. And, of course, because he’s got a British accent, everything sounds better. Cat said she liked him in ‘Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix’ (Pattinson played Cedric Diggory). We took pictures of her with Robert, and with Kristen Stewart (Bella). He was talking and joking with the other cast. Kristen was a little more introverted.”
The ‘Twilight’ effect: Kim Grimme says, “When Cat was cast, we didn’t get the enormity of what ‘Twilight’ would be. People definitely recognize her. When the movie came out, there was a big cast party in Portland, and she got to walk the red carpet. When the DVD came out, there was a party and she did an autograph signing with like 2,500 people. She loves it. She absolutely loves it. There’s a little buzz at school. And of course, it’s huge fodder with the grandparents.”

Claim-to-fame moment: Ominously tells Bella that the reason Edward didn’t come to a party at First Beach is because, “The Cullens don’t come here.”
How he got the role: “Catherine Hardwicke let me improvise, which I had cultivated doing poetry events. I remember I said something artsy-fartsy about the cold, and how you can be cold to the root of your soul. Now it sounds lame, but she said, ‘Wow, you can do this.’ I didn’t think they were looking at me for the role of Sam, but then they told me I got the role.
“I don’t reprise my role in ‘New Moon.’ They replaced me with another actor, Chaske Spencer. I know him, he’s really good, I have no problems with him whatsoever. (Sam) ends up being the leader of the wolf pack for the next two books. If I was replaced with a non-Native person, I would be, like, down there at the gates of Summit Entertainment (the company behind the “Twilight” movies) saying, ‘This is injustice.’ ”
The “Twilight” experience: “I spent a month and a half working with members of the Quileute nation to authenticate the film. I worked with wardrobe to make sure anybody Quileute was dressed Quileute. We shot my scene at, ironically, Indian Point beach, near Cannon Beach. It was windy and cold. It was snowing! I was wearing long underwear.”
The “Twilight” effect: “I graduated from Portland State University with a degree in math at the same time I was cast in ‘Twilight.’ I’m spending the summer at the Morehouse School of Medicine in Atlanta, and how I got here is very strange. Someone from the Quileute nation had recommended me to come and help give an award to Goldie Hawn in Washington, D.C., for her work with National Children’s Mental Health Awareness Day. An old friend of mine from Beaverton Arts & Communication High School saw me, and told me about a summer fellowship program at Morehouse, studying epidemiology and working with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. I didn’t have any acting projects lined up for the summer, so I applied and was accepted.
“‘Twilight’ definitely opened doors. I have a bunch of modeling projects lined up; I’m working on a poetry book; I’m coming to the PGE Park event; and I’m the guest at La Push in Washington for Quileute Days, July 17-19.
“I’m interested in acting but also in going to law school and working for national urban Indian health care. I want to stop the trend toward diabetes and alcoholism, and the disparity in health between us and other people. I want to have my hands in the change itself.
“I am currently an intern at Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in the Coordinating Center for Environmental Health and Injury Prevention Centers (suicide prevention) in Atlanta, specifically to help close the gap of heath disparity between Native American health and that of all other races in America.”

An old friend of mine from Beaverton Arts & Communication High School saw me, and told me about a summer fellowship program at Morehouse, studying epidemiology and working with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. I didn’t have any acting projects lined up for the summer, so I applied and was accepted.
“‘Twilight’ definitely opened doors. I have a bunch of modeling projects lined up; I’m working on a poetry book; I’m coming to the PGE Park event; and I’m the guest at La Push in Washington for Quileute Days, July 17-19.
“I’m interested in acting but also in going to law school and working for national urban Indian health care. I want to stop the trend toward diabetes and alcoholism, and the disparity in health between us and other people. I want to have my hands in the change itself.
“I am currently an intern at Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in the Coordinating Center for Environmental Health and Injury Prevention Centers (suicide prevention) in Atlanta, specifically to help close the gap of heath disparity between Native American health and that of all other races in America.”

Micheal Welch interview
Michael is talking to Blast about New Moon:
BLAST: If you had to pick a side, would you really be Team Mike, or choose between Edward and Jacob? Or are you contractually obligated like I’m guessing Kristen is to be ambiguous?
MW: I actually… between Edward and Team Jacob, I’m actually Team Jacob. I like Edward, but I… and I think it’s more of a gender thing more than anything else. I think Jacob represents more of a practical relationship, so I’d go Jacob -– but if there is a legitimate Team Mike that emerges, I will be happy to join it.
BLAST: Bella does some crazy stuff in “New Moon.” Did you do anything so daring in high school?
MW: You know, [laughs] one thing that I used to do was go into the local high school with my car with my friend in the passenger seat and do really lame donuts and stuff and every now and then I’d get into little shenanigans like that. The most dangerous thing I did as a kid was, my grandma lived in the senior center, well not a senior center, more of a neighborhood. [Laughs] This is just so lame I can’t believe I’m telling you, anyway, and kids weren’t allowed to walk around unattended so my cousin and I would just walk around and avoid security.
BLAST: That’s pretty bad ass.
MW: Oh now that I think of it –- when I was a kid, I actually grew up in a mobile home and there was actually what I later discovered to be meth lab right across from me. My neighbor and I would play cops and bad guys and we would spy on them and follow them around and stuff because we knew they were bad, but we had no idea.
BLAST: So has that ass shaking dance [from outside of the diner in “Twilight”] always won you the girls?
MW: Oh sure, that thing has followed me around like you wouldn’t believe [laughs]. No, nothing like that ever seemed to work in real life. I was similar to Mike Newton in high school — I hope I wasn’t that annoying — but that was my angle: “I’m the quirky guy, love me please.” But that never quite worked.
BLAST: So you said at some point they almost didn’t include the movie scene in New Moon? What’s that about?
MW: You know it’s a tricky thing when you try and turn a book into a movie because a movie is only two hours and there’s only so much you can fit in, but yeah, what they originally did was they took that moment between Jacob and Bella and put it in a different scene of the movie. Luckily Taylor and Kristen lobbied that scene for me to Chris Weitz saying it absolutely had to be in, and it’s a good scene. They weren’t really lobbying for me, it’s just, how can you not have that scene in there? Yeah, so I was really happy to hear that, and it was great for me because I got to do Mike’s best scene in the book.

Which type of Robsessed are you?
Here's a list of the different types of Robert Pattinson fans. Which one do you consider yourself?
- The “Minions”
They put Rob on some pedestal and act like he’s the best at everything in the entire world. All his films deserve to be award winners, he should get more awards, and basically every person needs to bow down to this awesomeness. Anyone that says anything bad about Rob should go to hell. They’re known for their extreme voting abilities, negative thread deletions, and Lainey Gossip write-ins.
- The “Wannabe”
They try to emulate Rob by listening to the same bands he likes, reading the books he reads, and wearing the same clothes as him. They were once very preppy… now they’ve become a hipster. They also deny that Twilight exposed them to Rob because it’s not a cool book or movie… even if they liked it.
- The “Follower”
They show up to as many Rob/Twilight events as possible to feel closer to him, but if they can’t do that, they’ll go after the events of his friends and fellow cast-mates. All they care about is being surrounded by the Rob inner circle.
-The “I’m Not A Stalker”
They believe that if you’ve spent a whole hour/day trying to figure out the places Rob could be at so you could “randomly” bump into him and get an autograph… it’s not stalking. This includes all those fans that went to Vancouver with Twilight book in bag, and waited outside the set/hotel/restaurant for hours and hours, and went bar hoping each night.
- The “Empathizer”
They believe they know Rob’s emotional state, to the point that they know what makes him happy, sad, angry, embarrassed, upset, etc. They try to do/stop things that could incite any of these emotions on Rob. All they care for is Rob’s physical and emotional health… pretending to be more like a mother. Rob is fragile in their eyes.
- The “Nympho”
They only think of one thing: Sex with Rob. Probably doing things to themselves while thinking of him. His fingers, hair, legs, crooked nose, eyes, dandruff, elbows… all of those things turn them on. They have dirty minds and can’t help themselves.
- The “Purists”
They believe Rob is a good person. He only smokes because someone got him addicted, and he’s trying to stop. He doesn’t do drugs or drink. He is a virgin. Of course Little Ashes is a movie not to be talked about or seen… Rob just needed money.
- The “Edwardians”
They believe Rob is Edward and he belongs with Kristen, his Bella. It is hard for them to see Rob the individual. They continuously confuse his behavior for the characters, thinking he can bite them and turn them into a vampire.
- The “Entitled”
They are quick to mention that they liked Rob way before anyone else, and hate the idea that he has so many more fans now. Rob was theirs first and anyone else that comes along doesn’t really know the real Rob and just likes him because they saw him in Twilight… and that’s a bad thing to them.
- The “Shippers”
They think the names Kristen, Nikki, Camilla, Miquita, Nina Ex, are all bad names associated with Rob. All they worry about are his relationships with females. To the point where they can’t stop talking about it or finding evidence of romanticism. They are sometimes similar to the Empathizer fans because these female friends could be harmful. The names Tom, Sam, Bobby, and Marcus are all good names and can do no harm to Rob…even if one might have supplied him with drugs.
